Castle and Gardens of Freÿr / Meuse (Belgium)
A tank used to regulate the water flow to the ponds
-
Taps are to be found along the channel coming from La Rochette.
Four of them feed decanting rooms, which are used as water towers supplying the ponds through lead pipes.
Water oversupply is bypassed via four others taps towards the Meuse.
-
A room supplies the 2 ponds in front of the orangeries, a second the central pond,
a third the 4 ponds in front of the castle and the last the pond on the esplanande.
-
The latter room (on the photo) was built without ceiling to sprinkle the plants of the old kitchen garden.
The three others are small cellars where one can stand only on his knees;
an uncomfortable situation when it is necessary to remove alluvium mud.
-
The departure of the pipes is furnished with a kind of showerhead to prohibit frogs
from stopping the jets at the end of the pipes.
-
The water of the ponds moves out towards the Meuse via the nearest bypass channel.
