Sculpturing linden trees as candelabra
- Sculptors love linden trees for its wood is worked easily; and so is it for gardeners, who palisade the branches.
- At Freÿr, it was unfortunately necessary to give up part of this sculpture work, like the linden veranda between the two orangeries.
-
At other places, substituting the shears by a machine brought in simplifications.
- Hence, the linden trees on pile (see the preceding photograph) display nothing more than a green wall.
- In the same way, the linden trees dominating the hornbeam hedges on both sides of the Frederic-Salle lost their Christmas tree shape for cylinders.
- Only, the candelabra of the round lanes leading to the Frederic-Salle and the bower (see a following page) are still cut with the shears and they have kept their ancient shape.
