Fishing during a flood:
a pleasant pastime
- Théodule de Laubespin had an older brother, Alfred, who married Marie d' Ennetières and settled in the residence of his wife in Elverdinge (Ieper). They had a son, Camille. The latter was in Freÿr for Christmas 1890.
- The water of the Meuse invaded the buildings up to one meter 86. The door of the main hall had been open to prevent that the pressure of the water did not break the window panes.
- Camille settled on the circular gallery of the Hall, with a fishing rod to catch some fish.
- Theodule passing by, was despaired that the canvas of the Snyders paintings were soaked with muddy water. He became even more flabbergasted to discover his phlegmatic nephew.
- "What do you do Camille?" "But you see, my Uncle, I am trying to catch some fish!"
