A word from Frederic
- Although my family originated a millenium ago in the Valley of the Meuse, it was also active in the North of the Low Countries by taking part at the Battle of Woeringen on the side of the Duke of Brabant and by going to Palestine with Robert Count of Flanders.
- Our branch, living in Freÿr since the early 15th century became the eldest one in the 16th century serving then the Habsburg (Spain and Austria).
- This led the first Duke to be as much a resident of Belgium as of the Austrian Empire, where we moved definitely at the end of the 19th century, making of me a citizen of the Austrian Republic.
- This has not prevented us to be "Belgian" from the depth of our heart all of these times. It could not be otherwise, except if we had changed our name !
- This is also the reason why I am currently working at the restoration of the ruins of Beaufort, the cradle of my family near Huy,
- and why I am encouraging my cousins at Freyr by joining the Foundation "Domaine de Freÿr".
