Eggenberg Castle, Graz, Steiermark in Austria

Known as the Escorial of Austria for its imposant Renaissance building
as well as the Schönbrunn of Styria for its delicate Rococo revamping,
the palace is unique for the interplay of those styles.

It is located at the outskirts of Graz, a city inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List.
It was owned by the Dukes of Eggenberg, then the Counts of Herberstein through marriage,
before belonging to the State of Styria.

One can appreciate its size by counting its 4 towers (seasons),
12 portals (months), 365 windows (days), 24 reception rooms (hours), ...

It is now hosting impressive collections, which were started in 1811 by Archduke John en encompass various fields:
arts (painting, statuary, goldsmith, ..), crafts (coin, weapon, cloth,..), history and natural sciences.

Eggenberg is also renowned for its concerts and exhibitions.
